The feature that most clearly cements Logic’s braggadocio comes at the end of “Yuck” and is a real life voicemail from Sir Elton John, calling to congratulate the rapper on his multiple Grammy wins and to ask him for a favor. It’s not likely to change the world, but it feels much more natural that having the star of “The Fault In Our Stars” sing a weepy, auto-tuned verse about cell phone addiction, which actually took place on “Everybody.” The songs are short on what sanctimonious detractors would call “messages,” but the freedom and airy feel of the whole album gives Logic the room to imbue the beats with his personality.Ģ Chainz delivers what is one of the mixtape’s best and most energized verses on “State of Emergency,” rattling o acronyms with enough air to make the audience want him to stick around just a bit longer. Fun is just about all “Bobby Tarantino II” is, a sigh of relief after the clenched- fist seriousness of its predecessor. Rick draws a clear line between “album Logic” and “mixtape Logic” from the word go, and it is the major distinction for anyone who hadn’t heard of the Maryland-based MC before last summer. If the conversation between Rick and Morty (of “Rick & Morty”) on the opening track of Logic’s new mixtape “Bobby Tarantino II” is any indication of his future in the industry, this isn’t something he worries about, and neither should his listeners. He’s the only rapper who could conceivably score an omnipresent megahit based around the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline and tweet a picture of himself enthusiastically gearing up to play Dungeons & Dragons in the same year. The rapper’s heart- on-sleeve earnestness and consistent, uplifting messages have made him an unlikely star. For these reasons I definitely think you would be much better off doing it as if Bobby Tarantino projects weren't mixtapes (you could bring up the difference between them and the other albums though) as it will be easier on you to notice and describe the differences between mixtapes vs albums and I personally think it would just turn out as a better project too.It’s impossible to dislike Logic. The older mixtapes really sound like they're from a different era thanks to beat choice, drum style, voice and many more. I think it would be much better (and easier) to compare the actual older music to the newer music because I don't think people really think of either BT project as an actual mixtape. I really like the idea of what you're doing but it definitely feels like you have chosen the wrong songs. The only track I can remember off the top of my head that does this is As I Am. One thing you could maybe touch on is some of the tracks where he used vocal layering in his old shit which just creates a feeling of happiness that I can't describe. You could even use sound quality as a point (maybe use a song from Young, Broke and Infamous and compare it to a new song to show how big of a difference there is, I recommend Stain in the Game) or even his voice and accent. There are more significant differences between the old mixtapes and albums too. If you want to compare mixtape songs vs album I would probably stick to the old mixtapes, and maybe consider both Bobby Tarantino projects albums (they basically are). If you're doing this as a mixtape vs album project I really think the songs you chose are not great and would also make it more difficult.
